Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 25, 2026
WordClip ("we", "us") is a Chrome extension that helps users see how words are used in real YouTube clips. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we handle it.
Information we collect
We try to collect as little as possible. Specifically:
- Lookup queries. When you highlight a word and trigger a lookup, that single word is sent to our backend so we can find a matching YouTube video. We log queries in aggregate to monitor service health and improve coverage. We do not associate queries with any personal identifier.
- Subscription information. If you subscribe, your payment is processed by Stripe via ExtensionPay. We do not see, store, or transmit your card details. We receive a subscription status (active, canceled, refunded) and a non-personal account identifier from ExtensionPay so the extension knows whether your account is paid.
- Anonymous diagnostics. The extension may log anonymous error reports (e.g., a YouTube embed failing) to improve reliability. These reports do not include personal information or browsing content.
What we do not collect
- We do not record browsing history or the contents of pages you visit.
- We do not collect names, email addresses, or contact information through the extension itself. (If you email us, we have your email so we can reply.)
- We do not sell or share user data with third parties for advertising or marketing.
- We do not use trackers or third-party analytics that profile users individually.
How information is used
- To return YouTube clips matching the words you look up.
- To verify your subscription status so the extension can unlock paid features.
- To diagnose and fix bugs and improve service quality.
- To respond to support requests you send us by email.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of third parties to operate WordClip. They handle data only as needed to provide their service:
- Stripe — payment processing. See Stripe's privacy policy.
- ExtensionPay — Stripe integration layer for Chrome extensions. See ExtensionPay's privacy policy.
- YouTube — clips are served via YouTube's standard embed. Your interaction with embedded videos is governed by Google's privacy policy.
- Cloud hosting providers — used to run the WordClip backend that maps words to videos.
Data retention
Aggregated, anonymous query logs are retained for up to 90 days for service health and capacity planning, then deleted or further anonymized. Subscription records are retained as long as required for accounting, tax, and legal purposes.
Your rights
You can uninstall the extension at any time, which immediately stops any further data being sent from your browser. To request deletion of any subscription record we hold, or to ask what data we have about you, email support@wordclip.app. Where applicable, we honor rights provided by the GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA (California) — including access, correction, deletion, and opt-out of any data sale (we do not sell user data).
Children
WordClip is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify users through the extension or by email.
